Found a town, recruit residents, claim land and grow into a nation with its own politics, taxes and alliances on a shared map.
Towny servers are built around the Towny plugin, which turns survival into a civilisation game. Players found towns, claim land in plots, invite residents and collect taxes. Towns can join together into nations with a capital, allies and enemies.
What sets Towny apart from regular survival:
Towny works best with an active population, so check player counts at your usual times. Look at how wars work (many servers use SiegeWar, others disable war entirely), how upkeep is paid and whether newcomers can easily join an existing town. Joining a town first is the best way to learn a server's economy before founding your own.
Featured servers are shown first: paid placements and five servers picked every day.

Most servers use /town new followed by the town name, which costs in-game money. After that you claim land with /town claim and invite players with /town add. Commands can differ, so check /town help on the server.
A town is a group of players with claimed land and a mayor. A nation is an alliance of towns led by a capital town, with shared allies and enemies and, on some servers, the ability to go to war.
