One life and real consequences: death means a ban, a reset or spectator mode, so every fight, cave and Nether trip matters.
Hardcore servers bring Minecraft's hardcore difficulty to multiplayer. The defining rule is that dying has lasting consequences: depending on the server you might be banned until the next season, switched to spectator mode, or lose your progress while the world carries on for everyone else.
Hardcore servers come in several flavours:
Pick a server that clearly explains what happens when you die and when the next season starts, so you can plan around resets. Communities on hardcore servers tend to be cooperative early on, because nobody wants to lose a season to a creeper. If player kills count as deaths, read the PvP rules carefully.
Featured servers are shown first: paid placements and five servers picked every day.

That depends on the server. Common outcomes are a ban until the season ends, a temporary death ban, switching to spectator mode, or losing one of a limited number of lives. The rule is usually explained on the server's website or Discord.
The core idea is the same - one life on hard difficulty - but servers decide what death means and often add seasons, limited lives or extra difficulty. Other players can also help or endanger you.
