Minecraft Servers!

Minecraft is the most played game in the world. It has nearly 500 million users and more than a decade of continued success. Rumours began swirling that Microsoft's block-builder, which is a hugely popular game, would be shutting down in 2020. Is Minecraft going to close down? This is a joke that was out of control.

A Channel 45 News story claims that Mojang announced that Minecraft would shut down its servers on December 21st 2020. But, if you follow the link you'll quickly discover that it's a prank generator that allows you to quickly create silly news stories to upset your friends on social networks.

Google then picked up the fake news and presented it as a reliable source. Fans became so worried that everyone, from Snopes fact-checking site to developers Mojang, had to respond. Helen Z, Mojang's spokesperson for Minecraft, tweeted this month that "I can verify that Minecraft servers will not shut down in 2020." It's a silly hoax.

Is Minecraft shutting down?

It is not likely to happen anytime soon. Minecraft will continue to operate through 2020 and beyond.
